Flotronic Pulsation Damper On Homogenizer Application
A global soft drinks manufacturing company – for whom Flotronic Pumps Ltd are the preferred Air-Operated Double-Diaphragm pump supplier – came to Flotronic with a non-Air-Operated Diaphragm Pump problem. The plant was getting severe pipe shake from their homogenizers. This created plant noise, and pipe welds to come apart creating leaks.
The solution needed to be hygienic, in-line CIP capable, and drainable.
In response Flotronic was able to get application details, and offer the in-line Flotronic pulsation damper. Bearing in mind this was new ground, as the frequency of vibration from the Homogenizer was considerably higher than that of a Flotronic Air-Operated Double-Diaphragm pump.
The Flotronic sanitary style pulsation damper complies to the same specification as the pumps; maximum operating pressure of 7.2 barg (105 psi). On confirming that the outlet pressure of the homogenizers was within this specification at 4 barg, Flotronic Pumps were able to supply an in-line pulsation damper, with Triclamp connections, to install on the outlet pipework of the homogenizers. A test unit was installed, and the system tested. The result was remarkable ; the discharge pipework from this unit went completely stable.
Once proven, the site went on to order an additional 7 units for their Homogenizer lines, plus additional units to go in line with their Flotronic Slimline Air-Operated Double-Diaphragm pumps. Since installation, the noise has dramatically reduced in the factory, and the incidence of pipework failure on these lines is almost non-existent.
