How To Pump Tomato Pizza Toppings
Well know pizza manufacturing company were planning their new pizza factory in the UK, they turned to Flotronic Pumps to pump their range of tomato toppings and as a result have now installed five Slimline FDA approved hygienic Air-Operated Diaphragm Pumps as part of the new plant.
One of Europe’s leading manufacturers of convenience foods, now have a purpose built plant solely for the manufacture of pizzas. Production of traditional Italian, American and other style pizzas commenced late 2001.
The FPL 'One Nut' fast maintenance Slimline hygienic double diaphragm pumps are used in two applications. Firstly in their low care area to transfer tomato sauces which can contain chopped or diced pieces and can be very viscous, from drums through a wall into mobile vessels in their high care area.
The second application in their high care area is pumping the product from these mobile vessels, transferring into hoppers for depositing onto the pizza bases. The 1½" 316 stainless steel diaphragm pumps with hygienic FDA aproved virgin PTFE / Teflon diaphragms and elastomers can transfer at a rate of up to 100 lt./min. The product is kept at around 6-7°C and the pump has to lift 1.5 metres and transfer around 2 metre head.
They were using flexible impellor pumps at our other factory for this application, but the suction was poor and they were very unreliable. The Flotronic diaphragm pumps have been excellent and the operators love them
The pumps are cleaned by flushing through with water and detergent daily and stripped once a week for a complete sanitisation.
If hygiene is critical then the Slimline FDA Air-Operated Double-Diaphragm hygienic pump is ideally suited because it is machined from solid 316 Stainless Steel, with no welds and designed to be self draining, which reduces product residue. By eliminating media residue, the pump eliminates risk of bacteria or other contamination in hygienic applications. They have no ball valve seats, resulting in a more easily cleaned design.
